We feel very satisfied that she’s getting what she needs and we’re comfortable where she is. It’s very well kept, and the facility looks nice to me inside and out. We did a lot of comparison shopping because we were out-of-pocket the first few months, and then Medicaid is paying for it, but I think the cost is very good for what we get definitely. They have games, church services, and movie nights. They have a rehab exercise center and provide transportation to medical transportation, shopping, or restaurants. They serve three meals a day, but I think the meals could be better. I’ve had some issues with the staff, but they’ve gotten much better. We’re very pleased with Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Facility, the physical therapy especially was excellent.

My family and I have been very satisfied. She seems very content and very happy there. We’re overall very pleased with the facility. She’s on a restricted diet because she has a swallowing difficulty, but I think with the soft food and the thick liquids, that’s been fine. We’re limited because of the COVID, but several years ago we had a family member there, and we were very pleased with the facility. All was very neat and tidy, and with the COVID they’re taking all the precautions they need.
Mother doesn't have any money and neither do I, so affordability was a primary concern. Colonial Care is the least expensive in Baton Rouge. They are very old, but they are refurbishing and getting it modernized.
When my mother was in the hospital the staff their told us that she will likely need nursing home placement. I was really skeptical and nervous about that but they provided a list of nursing homes in the area and said to go to nursing home compare on the medicare website to help me with my decision. I came across this facility and noticed that it had a 4 star rating.
My grandmother had refused to take her medicines and one staffer was pulling on her face and fussing at her. My father and I complained and, although I am not sure, the staffer may have been let go or moved to another wing. Things seemed to get better and subsequent visits were much more pleasant.
It is less than a five-minute drive away from the Ochsner Health Center and a local vision center. Reviews indicate that the staff is informal and friendly, that the rooms are a nice, large size and that residents get lots of exercise. The staff of the Care Center receive praise from visitors and relatives for making sure that residents always feel secure and loved, especially during the difficult last stages of palliative care. It is worth mentioning that Medicare pays for what they deem as 'medically necessary' skilled nursing care.
